Beijing air concern for Olympics

High levels of air pollution are a "legitimate concern" for anyone taking part in next year's Beijing Olympics, according to [a report by] the UN Environment Programme…The report will strengthen pressure for stronger temporary action to ease pollution during the Olympics…Liu Qi, the capital's Communist party chief and top games organiser, has said it is not planning to force nearby factories to suspend production…The chairman of Beijing's sprawling Shougang steelworks told the Financial Times recently that it would slash production for a full three months next year to help ease pollution over the Games period but added that it expected to receive government compensation for its "sacrifice".
