15 countries [were] represented,...[and] 10 Indigenous Peoples and Quilombolas,...30 Social Movements and Organisations,...[and] 150 Participants [participated at the] 3rd International Forest Defenders Conference... Claudelice Santos,...nominated for this year’s EU Parliament Sakharov Prize together with Chief Raoni and Marielle Franco, envisioned this powerful meeting... Claudelice founded the Zé Claudio and Maria Foundation in memory of her brother and sister-in-law who were murdered defending their community forest reserve... [W]e held a closed workshop...hosted by Cabanagem Foundation and the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), with protection from the Landless Workers Movement, (MST), creating a safe space for people to share their stories. We held security trainings...developed by the Escola de Ativismo... EarthRights International and the Centre for Climate Crimes Analysis led a legal workshop and mock trial –...opportunity to take on the role of state lawyers, Indigenous plaintiffs, judges and company representatives. [U]niversity of Sussex, introduced the group to Tella, a mobile app...which provides a secure, locally-owned system to gather evidence about human rights violations...On the fourth day, we held an open event... and welcome[d] Joenia Wapichana, the first indigenous congresswoman in Brazil, as our keynote speaker...
