Broaden employee base, make it more representative: PM [India's Prime Minister] to Industry captains

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today sent out a strong message that double-digit economic growth would only be sustainable if it were made “more broadbased” and for that India Inc needed to “voluntarily” make their employee base more “representative”...Singh said “affirmative action” by the industry could be a crucial component of the inclusive society that “we hope to build.” Singh’s comments came in the backdrop of the recommendation by the Empowered Group of Ministers, headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, that job reservation in the private sector could be possible by amending the Constitution and bringing in a new law, an issue that the Cabinet should decide.
