Anglo American, BHP (formerly BHP Billiton), Cerrejón Coal (Non-Operated Joint Venture of Anglo American, BHP and Glencore), AngloGold Ashanti, Ecopetrol, EPM, Frontera Energy and Glencore provided their responses to the report.  Big Group Salinas (BG Salinas) did not respond.

… At AngloGold Ashanti Colombia S.A., (AGAC), we are committed to ensuring that all our operations respond to the purpose of converting mineral wealth into social, economic and environmental progress for the country. To achieve this, we believe that respect for human rights and for the people who lead processes to defend them is an essential element. Likewise, we are absolutely willing to talk to the communities in the area of influence of our projects, as well as to all the stakeholders and observers of the development of the responsible mining industry in Colombia, in an open, permanent and transparent manner.

This is why, in view of the information recorded in the report "Human Rights Defenders and Business in Colombia", which also states in one of its annexes that AngloGold Ashanti Colombia did not respond to the consultations made by BHRIC, we would like to respectfully state some considerations to you…

…La compañía minera Anglogold Ashanti, que actualmente está a cargo del proyecto Quebradona en el municipio de Jericó, al suroeste del departamento de Antioquia, está violando derechos humanos en el país… Según el informe del Centro de información sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos, las empresas que están vinculadas con la violación a los derechos humanos en Colombia, aparecen en el informe que el relator de la ONU, Michael Forst, presentará mañana en Ginebra, Suiza… Esta investigación evidencia que las empresas que hacen negocios en Colombia deben darse cuenta de que su sola presencia puede ser suficiente para desencadenar una serie de acontecimientos que lleven a que un defensor de los derechos humanos sea asesinado, torturado, violado o amenazado… Dice el informe que “hacer negocios sin el debido cuidado de las comunidades y los trabajadores -incluso al no consultar a las comunidades o no tener mecanismos de reclamación accesibles- sólo hace más probable el silenciamiento brutal de sus representantes”…
