"Centre concerned over targets", 11 December 2018 

The Centre for Alliance of Labour and Human Rights has found that companies are annually increasing production targets for workers in tandem with the rise in minimum wages.

A report, ..., said that targets are also being raised while the number of workers is decreasing. It noted that often, rises in production targets are also caused by shorter lead times imposed by purchasing brands...

“As such, the purpose of this report is to show the way in which rising production targets have served to effectively undermine the wage increases that Cambodian garment and footwear workers have won in recent years,” it added.

Moeun Tola, Central executive director, ... said that the rising production targets in factories is affecting workers, especially their health.

“Some factories have ordered the workers to complete between 1,500 and 2,300 pants or shirts per day for each line of workers,” he said, noting that sometimes there is only one worker in a line...

Mr Tola said that the increase in production targets while the number of workers decrease, has made things difficult for workers, ...

“I think that quotas or production targets should not be too high for workers because they are human beings, not machines,” Mr Tola added...
