Cambodia: Factory workers faint anew due to high working temperatures, poor ventilation, & malnutrition

"Workers faint in poorly ventilated factory", 13 July 2017

Nearly 50 factory workers, including five pregnant women, at the Juhui Footwear factory in Kampong Cham province’s Prey Chhor district fainted yesterday due to inadequate ventilation.

...46 out of 1,000 workers fainted and have been sent to hospital for medical treatment.

“...when the workers were conducting factory activities, they were having a hard time breathing.”

...350 workers at the Pontus Footwear factory in Takeo province’s Tram Kak district also fainted.

The cause...was mass hysteria following one worker getting injured.

...Provincial health officials said that it was due to low blood sugar and exhaustion.

Moeun Tola, executive director of labour rights group Central, said at the time that mass fainting in Cambodia is fuelled by high working temperatures, poor ventilation and malnutrition stemming from low wages.
