"Sar Kheng pushes for checks on all construction sites", 17 July 2019

Interior Minister Sar Kheng ... reminded Phnom Penh and provincial administrations to conduct checks on all construction activities to ensure they have been approved and that firms given permission strictly follow conditions laid out in their permits.

..., Mr Kheng noted that some buildings were constructed or repaired and renovated without permission and there were no checks to see if they were safe.

“Municipal and provincial governors must advise the relevant officials in the municipality, provinces, districts and communes to strengthen their monitoring of construction projects as well as to guarantee that no work is being done without permission or is not following conditions stipulated in the permit,” the letter said.

It also said authorities must speed up issuing licences to construction firm owners and approval must be only ... given according to regulations...

Kheang Phearum, Preah Sihanouk provincial spokesman, ... said that the letter was just a reminder to all relevant authorities to strengthen their monitoring of construction sites and ensure the owners have permission to carry out the projects.
