Committee on Economic, Social & Cultural Rights Concludes Forty-Sixth Session

During its session the Committee adopted a statement on “The Obligations of States Parties regarding the Corporate Sector on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights”, in which it noted that the corporate sector in many instances contributed to the realization of economic, social and cultural rights through input to economic development, employment generation, and productive investment. However, corporate activities could adversely affect the enjoyment of Covenant rights through child labour; unsafe working conditions; restrictions on trade union rights; discrimination against female workers; harmful impacts on the right to health, the standard of living, indigenous peoples, and the natural environment; and the destructive role of corruption.
