Australia welcomes the finalisation of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers...Many private security providers strongly support the setting of industry standards, and seek to abide by the law and carry out their functions professionally. Yet, it only takes one or two cases of misconduct to bring the industry into disrepute. More importantly, conduct such as excessive uses of force can undermine the trust of local communities and the success of peace-building efforts...The Montreux Document represented an important step in clarifying the existing international legal obligations of states when engaging private military and security companies, and identifying good practices...
