DuPont agrees to settle fungicide lawsuits alleging birth defects for $9M

The DuPont Co. has agreed to pay $9 million (€6.6 million) to settle two lawsuits alleging that its fungicide Benlate caused birth defects in children, according to court records and a federal regulatory filing...DuPont, which began manufacturing Benlate in the 1950s, decided to halt production in 2001 in the face of mounting crop damage claims. The company has paid more than $1 billion (€740 million) in settlements and legal fees on claims of damage from Benlate...DuPont spokeswoman Michelle Reardon said the company would not comment beyond the SEC filing.
