Facebook Is Fixing Privacy Gaps, Canadian Report Says

Facebook...agreed to improve the way personal information is collected and used, Canada’s privacy commissioner said in a report from Ottawa today... Facebook Inc. will prevent third-party makers of applications such as games and quizzes from accessing personal information unless users provide explicit consent, Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart said in her report... An Internet policy group at the University of Ottawa’s law school filed a complaint against the company in May 2008. “Hopefully now, younger kids will realize there is a privacy issue, and make the changes themselves within the guidelines,” said Jordan Plener, 27, who helped prepare the complaint as a student... Plener said the group will continue to monitor Facebook “until we can actually see the changes..."
