Following ICJ Verdict, Stakeholders Prepare for Extended Opposition
Local community stakeholders opposing a controversial pulp mill border investment by Botnia, a Finnish mega paper pulp producer, celebrated a 14 to 1 ruling by the International Court of Justice, which refused to grant Uruguay’s request to force Argentina to remove road blocks that have been up since November 20th, 2006 when the World Bank Board of Directors voted to grant Botnia $170 million in project finance funds, and US$370 million in guarantee funds, to support the pulp mill.
