Media response: Microsoft blocks Israel unit's use of its technology in mass surveillance of Palestinians
On 25 September, the Guardian reported that Microsoft had terminated the Israeli military’s access to technology used to operate a surveillance system – one which collected millions of civilian phone calls every day in Gaza and the West Bank. According to the Guardian, Microsoft told Israeli officials that their military’s spy agency, Unit 8200, had violated the tech company’s terms of service by storing the surveillance data in its Azure cloud platform.
