Ghana: Govt. convenes multi-stakeholder workshop to formulate national action plan for implementation of Voluntary Principles

'Ghana to implement Voluntary Princples', 24 Jul 2015:...Nii Osah Mills, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources said [Ghana’s] government…adopted…the Voluntary Principles (VPs)…designed to guide companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations…in April, 2014…[A] workshop was [recently held]…to draw the country’s Action Plan for…implementation. The Minister observed that there was a growing consensus globally that transparency and respect for human rights were good for business, since they improved the business climate…and fostered good governance and accountability…The Minister…observed that security and respect for human rights are fundamental needs shared by individuals, communities, businesses and governments…He said…successful implementation of Ghana’s VPs action plan would depend on the collaborative efforts…[of] government…CSOs and…the extractive industry…Mr Sulemanu Koney…[CEO] of the Ghana Chamber of Mines...[said] the body would convince all its members to join the VPs.
