Ghana: Workshop urges companies to implement UN Guiding Principles

"Businesses urged to adhere to human rights principles", 11 Jul 2014

Mrs Lauretta Lamptey, Commissioner of Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has call on all state regulatory agencies to ensure that business organisations adhere to human rights principles in their field of work.  She said it behoves on all businesses to comply with all applicable laws and uphold the fundamental human rights and respect to ensure fair remuneration and working conditions for all employees devoid of using forced, compulsory or child labour. Mrs Lamptey made the call on Wednesday at a workshop on the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) on Business and Human Rights for business organisations organised in Accra. The workshop is jointly organized by CHRAJ, SHIFT and SOMO...Mr Sulemanu Koney, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Chamber of Mines said it is imperatives for business organisations to take the requisite measures to protect the environment and their coexistence against the negative externalities associated with the production process...He said the workshop would contribute to raising awareness and affecting change in human right considerations in various businesses.
