“Investment and Financing Models, Challenges and Recommendations of Renewable Energy Projects by Chinese Companies in the Belt and Road Countries”, 27 March 2020

This report gives an account on the prospect of renewable energy projects in Belt and Road countries and the current status of investments by Chinese companies and is based on interviews with Chinese investment entities and financial institutions as well as analysis and comparison of solar and wind power projects in 25 Belt and Road countries. The projects studied span across 17 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America and include different types of investment entities and financing models. Based on case studies and interviews with companies and financial institutions, the report summarizes the main models, issues and challenges of Chinese companies’ participation in Belt and Road renewable energy investments and financing and provide corresponding suggestions.
