Japan: Seminar held to report progress on National Action Plan & exchange stakeholder views

“Stakeholders’ Common Request presented at an event co-organized by Working Group members for development of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights”, 24 Jan 2020

Briefing Seminar by Stakeholders: Towards the launch of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP)  was held at Bar Association Building in Tokyo, Japan on 23 January 2020. The seminar, which was supported by the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), was co-hosted by the Global Compact Network Japan (GCNJ), ILO Office for Japan (ILO Tokyo), National Conference of Association of Small Business Entrepreneurs (Chu-Do-Kyo), Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA), Japanese Trade Union Confederation (JTUC-RENGO) and the Civil Society Platform for Japan’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (BHR-NAP Platform) - all members of the NAP Working Group. 

At the seminar, an official with the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a presentation on the progress and future plans related to the NAP formulation. In response to this presentation, panel session was held with participation of all stakeholders.

In the panel discussion, each stakeholder briefly explained respective views on NAP formulation followed by an in-depth discussion. Stakeholders’ Common Request and the Letter of Request, which reflect views of all stakeholders, were also presented at the session. The Request has been already submitted to the government through the Working Group.
