Kenya: Companies allegedly discharge toxic effluent into Lake Victoria; includes companies' comments

An investigative report by the Daily Nation alleges that companies have been discharging toxic effluent into Lake Victoria, compromising local communities health. The report includes a joint study with the University of Nairobi's toxicology department and includes laboratory tests of fish from the lake. It concludes that the fish is contaminated with poisonous chemicals making it unfit for human consumption. The companies mentioned, including Kisumu Water and Sewerage, Kibos Sugar, East African Breweries and Equator Bottles, have denied allegations of wilfully discharging the effluent.
