Japan: Fair Finance Guide announces 2021 scores for banks & insurance companies

"Norinchukin Bank and Dai-ichi Life ranks top according to NGOs", 8 Dec 2020

...Norinchukin Bank and Dai-ichi Life are among the top scoring financial institutions, according to a new set of scores published by Fair Finance Guide Japan, a coalition of Japanese NGOs that shed light on investment/loan policies of major financial institutions. They score 3.4 and 3.3 out of ten (10) points respectively.

Both financial institutions improved on their climate change policies, but still lag far behind their European counterparts who score at an average of 6.1 points.

Among the banks, Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust are close in line, but Norinchukin’s more clear disclosure of policies made the difference.

Dai-ichi Life notably improved their score by clarifying that they expect investees to comply with the UN Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. In addition to utilizing these international standards, Dai-ichi-Life also closely follows Japanese National Action Plan on Business and human rights...
