In October 2023, 7 villagers opposing a geothermal power project led by the Indonesian State’s Electricity Company (Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN)) from Lungar Village and Golo Muntas Village, Poco Leok in East Nusa Tenggara province, were summoned by the Manggarai Police after blocking the site, an act that organisations are called intimidatory and a step towards the criminalisation of the community.

Melky Nahar, coordinator of the Mining Advocacy Network, said that "in the name of a national strategic project that was created without prior consultation, small people are being evicted from their territory."
