Bangladesh: Chinese worker in Barapukuria Coal Mine died of work accident, says report; incl. companies' non-responses

In July 2025, it was reported that a Chinese migrant workers was crushed and killed by a hydraulic jack at Barapukuria Coal Mine. Police filed an unnatural death case.

The worker was employed by the joint venture XMC-CMC, working for Barapukuria Coal Mining Company. Reporting says General Manager of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company said the accident occurred during equipment relocation due to "carelessness".

XMC-CMC is a joint venture by Chinese mining companies Xuzhou Coal Mining Group and China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation. Both companies did not respond to BHRRC's invitation to comment on the allegation.
