China: Globalworks Lund AB publishes three-part report series on various labour and human rights risks at Shein and Temu

Globalworks Lund AB publishes three-part report series on various labour and human rights risks at Shein and Temu.

The first report shows how Shein and Temu are leading a highly troubling trend towards algorithmically managed supplier relations, enabling the resurgence of a sweatshop economy in which labourers work without formal contracts and under unregulated working hours. Worsening working conditions affect all supplier tiers in China.

The second report investigates the working conditions of warehouse workers and office staff who have been absent from recent debates about human and labour rights violations at Shein and Temu in China.

The third and last report on Shein and Temu analyses the impact of the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party on the two corporations’ business conduct. Based on publicly disseminated government documents, work reports, and online articles, this study brings to the fore two risk areas – global logistics and industrial poverty alleviation programmes.

[Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Shein and Temu to respond to these reports. Shein's response provided; Temu did not respond]
