[DOC] [International Olympic Committee response to report on integration of social & human rights considerations into IOC policies & structure]

…We agree with Mr. Vigeo that the Olympic Games can become more socially responsible, and the IOC is pursuing that goal in an ongoing basis. Legacy planning has become an increasingly important factor in selecting host cities…[T]he IOC encourages each one to define its own objectives, long-term strategy and visions from the beginning of the bid process and to examine how the Games can be a catalyst for economic and social development. For instance, the IOC has included a question on ethical sourcing…relocation plans and the adherence to international standards in the candidate city questionnaire for the Olympic Games…Whilst preparations for the Sochi Games undoubtedly inconvenienced some areas residents, they are already delivering substantial benefits, including improved roadways, new railways and new sewage treatment facilities…We are also doing more in regard to corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR is embedded in the IOC’s mission of placing sport in service of humanity.
