On 13 May 2018, human rights defender Gilberto Espinosa Victoria was shot and killed in Colombia. Gilberto, worked for the multinational Nestlé Colombia and was a member of the National Syndicate of the Agri-food Industry, Sinaltrainal. His murder occurred during a conflict that started in April following the presentation of a collective petition from the union to Nestlé. Though Gilberto was not personally threatened, death threats had been addressed to the SINALTRAINAL Headquarters.
