Glencore and Cerrejón response to threats to HRD Angélica Ortiz
Thank you for providing Glencore with the opportunity to respond to the threats made to Angélica Ortiz, through an ELN pamphlet. Apologies again for the delayed response...Cerrejón does not have any specific knowledge of the mentioned threats from 2021 and 2021. However, in May 2019, Cerrejón became aware of a pamphlet addressed to the NGO Fuerza de Mujeres Wayuu that contained direct threats against several of their members including Deris Paz, Luis Misael Socarras, Dulcy Cotes, Miguel Iván Ramirez, and Angélica Ortiz...In response, Cerrejón activated its protocol to address these types of threats and requested the respective investigations and protection from the Government of La Guajira, the Mayors of Maicao, Riohacha, Uribia, Hatonuevo, Barrancas and Valledupar and the investigations from the La Guajira Regional Attorney’s Office. In line with the protocol requirements, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Ombudsman and the Attorney General's Office were alerted of the situation...Cerrejón strongly rejects any link to threats or attacks to social leaders and has been proactive in demanding government authorities to act diligently in preventing and investigating these cases...
