Illycaffè disclosure re- Coffee Watch rejoinder on deforestation legislation "attacks"

We would like to clarify that the request for a joint referral of the EUDR by the European Coffee Federation was prepared to implement the regulation from the beginning. The request was related to the search for a more structured and informed dialogue that would ultimately lead to smoother and more effective implementation. It was not a negative lobbying activity to destroy the EUDR in the future.

illycaffè is not opposed to the EUDR nor to ECF. We believe that the implementation of a regulation is feasible only if supported by data and facts that allow us to set clear activities and objectives. Field data is needed to give us an accurate overview of the situation; otherwise, there is a risk of implementing useless activities that could potentially harm coffee-growing communities.

illycaffè confirms to have already organized all necessary activities to ensure readiness for the EUDR's enforcement by December 30, 2024. Currently, illycaffè is further refining the internal workflows by creating interfaces between the deforestation monitoring platform, the European TRACES system where due diligence declarations must be entered, and our internal systems (ERP and LIMS). These efforts aim to have complete control over the supply chain and eliminate manual operations.
