On 25 March 2025, journalist Dilwar Hussain Mozumdar, chief reporter for The CrossCurrent and assistant secretary of the Guwahati Press Club, was arrested by Assam Police in Guwahati, India, after reporting on a protest over alleged financial misconduct at Assam Co-operative Apex Bank, a state-run bank. Mozumdar had covered a demonstration outside the bank and questioned its managing director about an alleged multi-million rupee recruitment scam. Following his reporting, complaints were filed against him by the bank’s managing director and security guard, accusing him of criminal intimidation, making offensive remarks, trespassing, and attempting to steal documents. He was detained for twelve hours, charged and later released on bail, but continues to face prosecution.
