Ahead of the upcoming budget session, a joint platform of central trade unions, independent sectoral federations, and associations in India has called for nationwide protest actions starting on 5 February.

The protests are in response to the Indian government’s continued attacks on workers' rights, including the proposed implementation of anti-worker labour laws.

... In a press statement issued on 7 January, union leaders condemned the government’s anti-worker policies, including privatization, disinvestment of public companies and services, and the refusal to restore the old pension scheme.

Unions are particularly alarmed about the forthcoming budget session, which they fear will prioritize corporate interests at the expense of the working class. They also warn that the controversial labour laws enacted in 2020, which have been stalled due to mass resistance from workers, are likely to be enforced this year ...
