Indonesia: China Shenhua-owned Java 7 coal plant allegedly emits 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, contradicting "low emissions" claim; incl. cos non-response

An Inside Climate News article released in October 2025 reported that China Shenhua Energy Co., the state-owned enterprise controlling Indonesia’s 2,000-megawatt Java 7 coal power plant, has been criticized for contradicting its “low emissions” claims. The plant emits about 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, according to Global Energy Monitor.

The Business and Human Rights Resource Center reached out to China Shenhua to comment on the article. The company did not respond.
