Japan: Former Johnny’s Jr. members urge thorough fact-finding and transparency in remedies on sexual abuse at UN forum in Bangkok

Allegations
Johnny & Associates

"元ジャニーズJr. 国連の会合に登壇「性加害問題終わっていない」," 17 September 2025

[Unofficial description by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

Former Johnny’s Jr. members Junya Tanaka and Kazuya Nakamura, who allege they were sexually abused by the late Johnny Kitagawa, founder of the former Johnny & Associates (now SMILE-UP.), spoke at the UN “Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum.” They emphasised the need for a mechanism to conduct thorough fact-finding investigations and pointed out that many victims are left without redress due to statutes of limitations on sexual crimes, stressing the importance of exposing the structural nature of the problem.

SMILE-UP. has reportedly filed lawsuits against survivors who did not agree to the compensation amounts or refused to participate in its compensation framework, while failing to provide a clear explanation of the criteria used to calculate compensation.
