About 300 villagers in Kandal, Cambodia, protested after the construction company Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) reportedly sent bulldozers and attempted to close an entry road to farmland. The land is claimed by the company to build a new airport mega-project. The parts are involved in a land dispute and are negotiating a compensation. Local representatives and land rights defenders have been arrested after protesting or gathering evidences, and at least nine have been charged with criminal offences. The British Norman Foster & Partners and the Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) are contracted to design and build the mega-project, financed by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) and the China Development Bank (CDB).
