Kazakhstan: Railway workers promised pay increase following protest at Beyneu station

Railway workers, who protested at the Beyneu station in the Mangistau region since 1st of August, reported...that the employer had promised to fulfill their demand for a pay increase. RFE/RL was informed about this by one of the striking workers, Zhailaubek Zhanbusinov.

According to Zhanbusinov, the railway workers decided to return to their jobs from 8th of August, after the company's management promised to equalize the wages of Beineu workers with the salaries of employees of the Mangistau station...

The information was also confirmed by the press service of the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. The company admitted that the wage system was based on the so-called precinct coefficients, "which vary even within the same area"...
