North America: Global looks to prevent labour abuses in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup

Representatives from the trade union the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) say they were told by FIFA, before a planned visit, that they would not be allowed access to the Azteca Stadium, which is being renovated for the 2026 World Cup.
In a statement, BWI, which represents more than 12 million workers, accused FIFA of failing to live up to its commitment to independent oversight, raising "serious concerns about its human rights obligations and its responsibility to prevent exploitation in World Cup-related infrastructure projects".
