Perú: Investigación expone las fallas ambientales de Southern Copper Corporation que afectan a comunidades agrícolas

Los pobladores y agricultores de las zonas cercanas a las minas Cuajone y Toquepala alegan que las operaciones de Southern Copper Corporation, subsidiaria de Grupo México han generado contaminación ambiental, afectando el río Torata y la salud de las comunidades locales. Informes del OEFA confirman que hubo filtraciones de sustancias con metales pesados, como cadmio, cobre y arsénico, que superaron los límites permitidos, impactando el suelo y el agua. Estudios revelan que muchos habitantes presentan metales pesados en la sangre, incluidos niños en edad escolar. Además, se cuestiona la falta de medidas adecuadas para prevenir estos impactos y la limitada fiscalización estatal.
