Poland: Mexican and Colombian migrant workers at Plukon plant, hired via Jober24, allegedly subjected to wage theft & intimidation, had gun waved at them, incl. cos. response and non-response
According to an Al Jazeera investigation, a Mexican worker and five Colombian migrant workers at a Plukon Food chicken processing plant in Błaszkí, Poland, were reportedly subjected to labour abuses, including wage theft and intimidation.
Reportedly, a person hired by a contractor company working with Jober24, a temporary recruitment agency supplying staff to Plukon, told the workers that their shifts would be extended to 12 hours due to staff shortages. When the workers refused and demanded the wages they were owed, the contractor allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with one of the workers, verbally abused them, and waved a gun at them. Workers also claimed that four of them were undocumented as a result of the agency’s negligence.
Al Jazeera contacted Plukon for comment. The company stated that the man with the gun was not directly employed by Plukon or by Jober24. Regarding the wage theft allegations, Plukon said it always pays its workers in accordance with Polish law.
The workers reportedly went to the police, who told them that the man had been identified and that the gun was a toy. The police allegedly “encouraged the migrants to reconcile with him rather than press charges.” Police later told Al Jazeera that they did not pursue the case because no formal complaint had been filed.
In October 2025, the Resource Centre contacted the companies mentioned in the article: Jober24 and OESAS. It received a response from Jober24 but did not receive a response from OESAS.
Jober24's response can be read in full below. In its response to the Resource Centre, Jober24 said that upon receiving information regarding alleged abuse of Latin American workers performing tasks at the Plukon facility, it promptly initiated an internal review, including consultations with P&S Sierpc Sp. z o.o., the subcontractor responsible for employing these individuals within the scope of the project. According to the company, the actions taken did not confirm any form of misconduct. In particular, no evidence was found of wage theft or intimidation. The work was organized in a shift system fully compliant with the Polish Labour Code, and all changes to work schedules were made within legal limits and in consultation with the staff.
The Resource Centre was not able to contact P&S Sierpc to invite a response to the allegations as a website presence or contact details could not be identified; if a response is received in the future, this page will be updated accordingly.
