S. Korea: In a machinery accident at a power plant, another subcontractor worker death in the country

A worker has died in another fatal entrapment accident at the Taean Power Plant, located in Banggari, Wonbuk-myeon, Taean County, South Chungcheong Province. The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. on 2 June 2025. The victim, identified as K, born in 1975, was employed by a subcontractor of Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. (…)
According to witness accounts, the worker was found trapped between parts of a lathe machine while carrying out an inspection alone on a stationary unit. Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
Korea Western Power has announced it will release an official statement after conducting an investigation with the subcontractor involved.
This marks the first fatal accident at the Taean Power Plant since the death of young irregular worker Kim Yong-gyun over six years ago. On 11 December 2018, at around 1 a.m., Kim was killed while inspecting a conveyor belt at Units 9 and 10 of the same facility. At the time of his death, Kim had only been employed for three months.
