S. Korea: Fourth National Action Plan published & includes a new chapter on digital rights

"How to Protect Human Rights in the 'Digital Age'...The Fourth National Action Plan for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights released," 26 March 2024

... The Ministry of Justice announced on March 26 that it has established and published the "Fourth National Action Plan for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights (4th NAP)," which provides the direction of the government's human rights policy from 2023 to 2027.

... Notably, a separate chapter on 'human rights in the digital age' was newly established to reflect the human rights needs of the digital transformation era and the government's vision. It will focus on guaranteeing the right to access digital information, while strengthening the protection of personal information and enhancing the national response to human rights violations utilizing digital technologies.

... The plan is organized into 271 policy tasks in 31 areas centered on six policy goals, corresponding to rights under the International Bill of Human Rights.

The six policy goals are: 1) protecting and promoting respect for life and fundamental freedoms; 2) ensuring the right to a dignified life; 3) strengthening the protection of the human rights of socially vulnerable groups and minorities; 4) protecting and promoting human rights in the digital age; 5) strengthening the responsibility of businesses to respect human rights; and 6) spreading human rights awareness and a culture of respect for human rights.
