“SPC Samlip Sihwa plant found in violation of 65 labour regulations following fatal accident”, 26 august 2025

Following a recent fatal accident at the SPC Samlip Sihwa factory, the Ministry of Employment and Labour has uncovered 65 violations during a labour inspection.

According to documents submitted by the Ministry to Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Joo-young, the inspection took place over a three-week period beginning in May at the company’s Sihwa site.

The Ministry announced plans to refer 49 of the violations to prosecutors for suspected breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. These include failure to install machine guards on rotating equipment, lack of fall protection measures, and absence of work plans.

A further 16 violations—including failure of supervisors to carry out their duties, health and safety officers performing unrelated tasks, and the omission of mandatory safety training—have resulted in administrative fines totalling 229 million won.

…On the morning of 19 May, a woman in her 50s was killed after becoming trapped in a cooling conveyor while applying industrial lubricant at the SPC Samlip Sihwa plant in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
