Sodexo response re- alleged poverty wages, discrimination & overwork of migrant cleaners at UCL
Sodexo’s response to Business & Human Rights Resource Centre
17 November 2025
A Sodexo spokesperson said: “Together with UCL, we’re reviewing the cleaning service to reflect how campus life has evolved – how people work, study and visit the University. Our aim is to ensure the service continues to support UCL’s sustainability goals and enhances the experience for everyone on campus. These proposals will impact the size of our cleaning team, and we’re working closely with UCL and recognised union UNISON to minimise the impact on our colleagues. This includes offering an enhanced voluntary resignation scheme, exploring redeployment opportunities, and supporting applications for new roles within the revised service.
“We remain committed to keeping our teams informed and supported throughout this process, recognising that change can be challenging.”
