Soeung Pros, deputy president of the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers Democratic Union’s (CCAWDU) chapter at the W&D garment factory, who has led union protests in the past, has been seriously injured by three masked men on a motorbike. The men reportedly beat him on his head with a steel pipe while he was standing in line to buy food outside the factory in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district. The Cambodian Labor Confederation considered the assault just another threat against the apparel workers’ union stemming from the previous protests and defense of workers’ rights at the W&D factory.
