S. Korea: Disabled worker who escaped from salt plot reveals being exploited and having wages withheld since 2014

“Park Young-geun, a disabled worker who escaped from the salt plot run by the Jang family who were renting the plot from Taepyung Salt Farm, said he worked at the plot since 2014 but was not paid properly. According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor investigation, the wage withheld from Park since 2017 was 87,570,000 Won. Considering the court decision that stated Jang’s father exploited workers with disability from 2006 to 2014 in the same salt plot, it can be suspected that these issues have continued in this salt plot for more than 10 years.” [...]

“Taepyung Salt Farm responded that before Park revealed the matter last October, it was not aware of the allegations regarding the Jang family abusing workers with disability. Since they merely have a lease with the Jang family, the company explained it does not have the authority to directly investigate the working conditions [of workers] or criminal records [of contractors].” [...]
