TikTok response to allegations of promoting hateful speeches, and inappropriate language in Uganda

Thank you for your email dated May 6, 2025, inviting TikTok to respond to allegations reportedly made by Mufti Ramadan Mubaje regarding the use of our platform to promote hate speech. The article does not reference any specific content or accounts on our platform in a way that would allow us to evaluate or respond to a particular instance. Nonetheless, we appreciate the opportunity to clarify our policies on hate speech and to share more about our ongoing efforts to keep our global community safe.

TikTok respectfully disagrees with Sheikh Mubaje's assertions that our platform lacks rules and is used to spread hateful messages. Our Community Guidelines, which apply to everyone and everything on our platform, include rules for what is allowed on TikTok, as well as standards for what is eligible on the For You feed (FYF). These Guidelines make clear that we do not allow any hate speech, hateful behavior, or promotion of hateful ideologies on our platform. This includes explicit or implicit content that attacks a protected group.

TikTok has tens of thousands of trust and safety professionals working to protect our community, and we invest considerable resources into finding and removing content that violates our Community Guidelines as quickly as possible…
