Ukraine: Govt. restores status of 5 Greek shipping cos. as intl. war sponsors after they failed to publicly condemn Russian aggression

The status of five Greek shipping companies was restored in the list of war sponsors, 7 August 2023

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) reinstated the status of five Greek shipping companies on the list of “International sponsors of war”, as these companies did not fulfill the conditions agreed during the negotiations regarding their exclusion from the list.

Recently, the Ukrainian and Greek sides started negotiations, where the companies were asked to fulfill the following conditions:
– stop the practice of turning off transponders (devices for tracking ship navigation);
– stop the practice of transshipment of cargo from board to board;
– publicly condemn Russian aggression.

The problem of turning off transponders and transshipment from ship to ship was solved in the 11th package of EU sanctions. However, these five Greek transport companies did not fulfill the requirement of public condemnation of Russian aggression within the specified period. Therefore, the NACP restored their status in the list of “International War Sponsors”.

In the summer of 2022, the NACP granted the status of “war sponsors” to five Greek companies – Dynacom Tankers Management (DTM); Delta Tankers LTD; Thenamaris Ships Management Inc.; Minerva Marine; TMC Tankers LTD. The companies transported Russian oil and oil products, thereby replenishing the budget of the aggressor country and financing the Russian invasion...

The Agency is open to cooperation with international business and is ready to consult on the steps necessary for delisting.
