On 7 April, KGB (Committee for State Security of Belarus) listed the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Industry Workers' Union (REP) as an extremist organization and banned its activities. REP asked for a written explanation from the KGB as to why the union was deemed an extremist formation. New searches and detentions came as a response.

On the 19th of April, Vatslau Areshka, an activist of the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Industry Workers' Union was arrested. The REP’s office was searched. The trials of REP and its affiliates continued in the Supreme Court in July (12, 14 and 18th).

The heavy oppression against unions in Belarus continues. At least 15 REP's and its affiliates leaders and activists have been arrested, with some already having stood trial and are in prison.
