In response to email inquiries from your center dated January 14, 2025, regarding reports titled "Amnesty International Calls for an End to Attacks on Rempang Island Residents Opposing Eco-City Project" and "Rempang Island Residents Facing Intimidation for Opposing Eviction for Eco-City Project," as well as another report titled "Indonesian Islanders Resist Chinese Solar Development Project, Tensions Escalate," our group provides the following response:

Our group has not initiated any eco-city project and has not reached any agreements or contracts. The relevant Batam authorities only preliminarily introduced development project prices and conditions to our company. No individual or organization has represented our group or company in discussions or applications for any development matters with (1) Batam local government departments, (2) relevant authorities, or (3) any other agencies. Our group has not participated in any of the actions mentioned in the reports.

Our group respects and cares about the rights of indigenous people, and ensures their human rights and residences will not be affected by any plans.

Regarding the solar project specifically, our group has not begun this project, has not agreed to or decided on building a power plant or what method of power generation to use, and has not reached any agreements or contracts. There are no coal-fired power plants or solar projects in Batam that are under our application, being reviewed, or already approved. Therefore, the related content in the reports is completely incorrect and false...
