Mine guard to be charged over village shooting [Philippines]

A security guard working for an Australian mining company in the Philippines is likely to face charges over the shooting of an unarmed villager trying to stop the demolition of houses on a mine site. Senior Filipino police detective Crisanto Jasmin told The Age the guard, working for Melbourne company OceanaGold, shot and injured Emilio Pumihic while two other guards held the villager's arms... Filipino press reports quoted an OceanaGold company official as saying Mr Pumihic was an illegal small-scale miner who had been shot after attacking a local policeman.
