New ‘fossil-fuel-free’ index covers 7400 companies

The FTSE Group has launched the Developed ex Fossil Fuels Index Series, a global benchmark excluding companies linked to exploration, ownership or extraction of fossil fuels…BlackRock, the world’s largest fund manager, intends to launch a fund that tracks the FTSE’s new Index using seed capital from Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)…The not-for profit organisation has 1.4 million members and works to protect the world’s natural resources, public health and environment…FTSE’s Global Equity Index Series…covers approximately 7400 companies, and represent almost 98 per cent of global market capitalisation…Companies with revenues from coal mining, crude petroleum and natural gas exploration and production; or proved and probable reserves in coal, oil or gas are excluded form the Index…“We are increasingly seeing demand from our clients for indices that reflect their overall business culture and values,”…
