"15 dead, dozens feared trapped in City of Naga, Cebu landslide" 20 September 2017

Authorities have recovered fifteen bodies while trying to rescue dozens of others from a landslide which trapped residents and workers of a quarrying site in the city of Naga in Cebu province....

...Chief Inspector Roderick Gonzales, Naga police chief, estimated at least 20 to 25 houses in Barangay Tinaan and five to ten houses in adjacent Barangay Naalad were "completely covered" by the landslide. The Cebu disaster management office said dozens of people are still feared trapped in the rubble

...Gonzales said some of the trapped residents were workers of Apo Land and Quarry Corp., a CEMEX company, which has mining rights where the landslide happened.

Apo Land representative Chito Maniago said they have mining rights over the area, but they have not yet begun operations.

...He added they have coordinated with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), the government agency tasked to regulate mining operations, regarding the cracks reportedly found in the area.

...MGB Environment Division Chief Armando Malicse...said the rubble covered a total area of 70 hectares, and that the operations of the Apo Quarry Corp. were not within the vicinity.
