PHILIPPINES: Citing U.N. Findings, Farmers Seek Pesticide Probe

...a group of Philippine farmers who say toxic pesticides are still being used in the country are calling for a congressional investigation into smuggling and indiscriminate distribution of banned pesticides and fertilizers...Despite their serious health and environmental effects, at least 23 "dirty" pesticides, including DDT, have been allowed into the country, Agricultural Irrigators Association of South Cotabato Chairman Rene Lozada said. "This matter needs to be resolved immediately, because it has been slowly killing the small farmers," he said, adding that multinational companies are dumping rejected U.S. and European pesticides onto the Philippine market.
