Press release: NGO welcomes recommendations by Expert Group on Sustainable Finance but regrets lack of reference to human rights

ShareAction welcomes the release of the interim report by the High Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance. The re-framing of the purpose of the financial system, which forms the core of the report, is a vital shift in the conversation surrounding sustainable finance, exemplified by the report’s call for a ‘re-engineering of the financial system’...

Eleni Choidas, European Policy Officer at ShareAction, said: “We are encouraged to see greater connections being made between the social, environmental and climate change elements of sustainability but regret the absence of strong reference to the international human rights legal instruments that should be guiding the understanding of the social dimension of sustainability... It is now up to the Commission to ensure they are operational and truly achieve impact.”
